ABOUT ME
Welcome to my counselling practice. My name is Jess, and I am the founder of Seven Rivers Counselling. I am passionate about supporting individuals and families through their unique journeys. With a background in social work and extensive experience in various roles, I am committed to fostering a safe and empowering environment for all my clients.
In my free time, you’ll often find me swimming laps at the pool, exploring nature, reading, volunteering at the animal shelter, spending time with my family, or hanging out with my cat, Cooper. As a vegan, I’m passionate about animal welfare and actively work to promote animal rights and end cruelty. You can read more about it in my writing portfolio.
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a specialization in Child Welfare from the University of British Columbia, located in Vancouver, British Columbia and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Toronto, specializing in Mental Health and Health, located in Toronto, Ontario. I am registered to provide services in the province of British Columbia and Ontario.
Additionally, I am a Canadian Red Cross-certified First Aid Instructor, where I bridge the gap between physical first aid and counselling by incorporating stress management, emphasizing community support, and teaching mental health first aid.

My Approach
Growing up as a first-generation Canadian navigating the western world, I experienced firsthand the challenges and trauma that come with balancing different cultural identities. This personal journey inspired me to pursue a career in social work to help others become the best versions of themselves, despite the challenges they face. My counselling approach is rooted in empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to decolonizing social work practices. I aim to provide a supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, develop coping strategies, and work towards their personal goals. You can read more about my personal experience with decolonization here.
I look forward to working with you and supporting you on your journey towards well-being and resilience.
